The Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC and the United States technology startup Anthropic recently convened their inaugural event in Singapore. This gathering took place on Thursday, April 23, following GIC’s substantial financial backing of the frontier artificial intelligence firm behind Claude.
Focusing on AI Integration
The closed-door session brought together roughly 150 senior professionals from Asia’s technology and investment sectors. Attendees included representatives from government agencies in Singapore, venture capitalists across Asia, and local technology executives. The event, held at the state investor’s office in Capital Tower, featured live demonstrations of Anthropic’s AI tools.
Speaking during the Anthropic x GIC Asia Pacific Innovation Day, Dominic Soon, Senior Vice President of Private Equity at GIC, stated that artificial intelligence is “no longer optional for anyone.” He described the technology as foundational. According to Mr. Soon, organizations of all sizes can gain considerable advantages from AI if it is deployed responsibly, thoughtfully, and safely. He further cited Anthropic as a leader and innovator in this domain.
Singapore’s Position in the AI Landscape
GIC highlighted Singapore’s strong adoption rate of Claude, noting that users in the country utilized Anthropic’s platform at five and a half times the expected level for a nation of its size. Mr. Soon asserted that Singapore possesses sufficient talent to help companies fully leverage Claude’s capabilities. He concluded by stating that the city-state is strategically positioned to become a global center for AI.
Investment Details
GIC initially invested in Anthropic in September 2025 during the company’s US$13 billion (S$16.6 billion) Series F funding round. This investment underscores GIC’s commitment to supporting leading firms in the rapidly evolving AI sector.
