NTU Boosts AI Education for Undergraduates
Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is set to provide all undergraduate students with comprehensive access to a suite of premium Google Artificial Intelligence tools, beginning in August 2026. This major educational shift is part of a strategic effort by the institution to deeply integrate artificial intelligence technology into its academic curriculum.
The specific technologies students will gain access to include Gemini Enterprise, Google AI Studio, and Vertex AI. According to NTU’s announcement on April 6 (Monday), the university aims to substantially raise the proportion of courses that incorporate AI components to approximately 40 per cent by the year 2030. This represents a significant increase from the current rate of roughly 5 per cent.
The school highlighted that it is pioneering this approach, making NTU the first institution in Singapore to adopt artificial intelligence education at such an expansive scale.
Focus on Practical Skills and Market Readiness
To ensure practical competency, students will receive computing credits enabling them to utilize the Google software platforms. This access allows them to build, deploy, and manage their own personalized AI agents for various purposes, including academic learning and complex problem-solving. Students are capable of creating numerous such AI agents to support their studies.
NTU emphasized that these developed agents are portable; consequently, graduates can continue to use and refine these tools even after entering the professional workforce, thereby boosting their overall productivity. The university stated that this feature will significantly improve the competitiveness of its graduates within the job market.
This comprehensive access is available to all undergraduates, regardless of their specific field of study, following consultation with the NTU Students’ Union. The tools are designed to support a diverse range of technical proficiencies, accommodating both novice users and advanced builders while allowing students to experience novel learning methodologies.
Structure of AI-Embedded Courses
The 40 per cent of courses utilizing AI will be structured across two primary focuses. Half of these AI-embedded classes will concentrate on using artificial intelligence to personalize the educational process, thereby helping students better understand challenging subject matter. The remaining half will focus intensely on the practical skills of building, deploying, and managing sophisticated AI agents designed to resolve real-world difficulties.
NTU added that its proprietary NTU AI Learning Assistant platform is available to educators, enabling them to develop specialized AI tutors trained using course materials.
